The Movement Mindset with Dr. Heather
What Every Runner Should Expect from a Movement-Focused Performance Consultation
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If you've ever wondered why pain keeps coming back, why certain injuries never fully heal, or why some runners recover quickly while others struggle for months — this webinar will be eye-opening.
Dr. Heather, movement specialist and sports performance coach, walks you through her signature evaluation process that helps runners identify the root cause of pain and finally break the injury cycle.
You’ll learn:
- How movement patterns and muscle imbalances influence running mechanics
- Why most treatment plans fail to address the real problem
- What happens inside a full consultation, from history timeline → movement screening → gait analysis
- How Dr. Heather uses functional movement testing to uncover the hidden issues contributing to pain
- What personalized outcomes and insights runners walk away with
- How this unique, whole-body approach helps runners heal faster, run stronger, and prevent future injuries
Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, recurring injuries, or want to optimize performance, this webinar gives you a clear picture of what your deep-dive consultation will include and why it works.

Hey everyone and welcome. I'm Dr. Heather, a doctor-trained movement specialist, sports performance coach, and rehab mobility educator. I am so excited you're here today because this podcast is about helping you understand what truly goes on in a deep, meaningful consultation with me. One that helps runners heal faster, move smarter, and run stronger. For over 25 years, I've worked with runners, endurance athletes, and active adults, both in clinical settings and in virtual coaching, helping them uncover why pain keeps showing up, why injuries don't go away, and how to fix the root cause, not just mass symptoms. Today I'm actually going to walk you through, or more talk you through, exactly what happens in a consultation with me, why each piece matters, and what you'll walk away with. Hey everyone, it's Dr. Heather, movement specialist and sports performance coach, doctor-trained sports chiropractor no longer practicing in clinic, and this podcast is all about helping runners understand why their injuries might be coming back and fully educate and give them knowledge that they can use to helpfully resolve some of their issues. Now let's get back to today's episode. Early in my career, I noticed a pattern. Two runners could have the same injury, the same training plan, even similar mileage, but one heals quickly and one struggles for months. The difference wasn't luck, it was movement patterns and muscle imbalances. Many runners assume pain equals injury in one spot, but the true cause often comes from dysfunction somewhere. Poor stability, unused muscles, inefficient movement cues, or compensations your nervous system has learned over time. That's why traditional solutions like stretching alone, rest, or even isolated strength work often fall short. They don't target root causes. So let's talk about how we uncover the root cause. The first step in the consultation is getting a full picture of your story, not just where it hurts, but when pain first started, what makes it better or worse, the timeline of symptoms, any imagings you've had, and other treatments you've tried. And that could range from PT, dry needling, other chiropractors, injections, rehab. This isn't just data, it's your movement history, and it helps me differentiate short-term fixes versus long-term solutions. We create a clear timeline that helps pinpoint exactly when the pattern shifted and why the pain persists. Next, we dive into what I call a functional movement screening. This is where runners often have their aha moment. In this screening, and I use it as part of the assessment tool, our consultation, we assess your foundational movement patterns like squat, single leg stance, hip mobility, trunk stability, and more. What I'm looking for is asymmetries, weak links, compensating strategies, inefficient movement patterns. This tells us why your body moves the way it does and where the imbalances lie that are affecting your running mechanics and performance. More importantly, every runner's movement footprint is unique. Your screening isn't a one-size-fits-all checklist. It's a blueprint for your corrective plan. For runners specifically, we also analyze your gait. This is either this is done through video that you've taken and sent to me ahead of time, and we see how your patterns show up while you run. And we talk about it together. So I actually pulled the video up while we're on our consultation, and we look at what's happening here from your stride mechanics to your foot strike, uh the stability of the hip on impact, trunk rotation, cadence, and more. See, running isn't just forward motion, it's repeated movement cycles. We find that a gate analysis assessment often aligns perfectly with the movement screening results because it gives us clues to correct mechanics. So what do you walk away with? A clear root diagnosis, not just a symptom label, a movement-based explanation you understand and own, a roadmap of exactly which exercises to do, why and when, a personalized corrective strategy that fits your training, and confidence in knowing how to prevent injuries in the future, not the present. This is transformational because it shifts control back to you and gives you tools to consistently run better and pain-free. Many runners I see have tried the usual steps. PT routines, stretching, rolling, maybe even cortisone uh shots, and they're still stuck. That's because those approaches often treat symptoms, not movement patterns. But when we fix movement, the tissue stress decreases, the nervous system starts to relearn efficient pathways. This is why runners in my program often have breakthroughs they didn't have anywhere else. Pain becomes feedback, not permission stop training. You start training the body as a whole system, not a collection of isolated parts. Here's how you can get ready to maximize value. Bring any previous imaging or reports, track your symptoms and triggers over a few days, have a short video of running if possible, come with questions you've been afraid to ask. Your preparation helps me get deeper, faster, and ultimately see what others missed. Thank you so much for actually tuning into today's short podcast. If you're interested in a consultation that's deep, personalized, movement-based, designed for long-term results, then I would highly suggest you book that call with me. I work with runners from all levels, from weekend warriors to competitive marathon runners, and my consultation pr process is tailored exactly to you. So, like I said, go ahead, book your session. It's finally time to understand why you hurt, how to fix it, and what your strongest body can feel like. We'll catch you on the next podcast.
